Seeds for Bees
Choose open, nectar-rich flowers and keep something blooming for as much of the year as possible.
Bees are particularly attracted to purple flowers and to open or tubular blooms that make nectar and pollen easy to reach. Lavender is a favourite: we planted 72 lavender plants and watched them become a dependable feeding place for bees.
Easy ways to begin
- Choose a bee-friendly seed mixture from a reputable seed supplier.
- Try Seedball tins or bags where scattering seed is more practical.
- Use seed paper thoughtfully: results depend on the seeds, soil, weather and how the paper is planted.
- Look for trusted planting guidance, such as the bee-friendly advice from BBC Gardeners’ World.
Even a window box or a few pots can become a useful stopping place.
